"A typical result of a holotropic breathwork session is profound emotional release and physical relaxation.  After a successful and well-integrated session, many people report that they feel more relaxed than they have ever felt in their life.  Continued accelerated breathing thus represents an extremely powerful and effective method of stress reduction and it is conducive to emotional and psychosomatic healing.  Another frequent result of this work is connection with the numinous dimensions of one's own psyche and of existence in general.   This is also the understanding that one finds in the spiritual literature of many cultures and ages."

"Breathwork is about clearing out the emotional pain that keeps our hearts closed and our minds in turmoil.

As we use our breath in a circular and rhythmic manner, we become more and more present.

  • Our breath helps to quiet our minds.
  • As our minds quiet, our defenses relax.
  • As our defenses relax, our hearts can soften.
  • As our hearts soften and become more receptive, there is a sense of emptiness and spaciousness.
  • As there is a sense of emptiness and spaciousness, there is less fear of being in the world.
  • As there is less fear of being in the world, we can be more accepting of gravity.
  • As we can be more accepting of gravity, we can allow ourselves to be grounded in our bellies.
  • As we can allow ourselves to be grounded in our bellies, we can be present and awake.
  • As we can be present and awake, we have the capacity to trust, to know who we are and what we came here to do in any given moment."

"This experience has been life-transforming for me...

It was intensely moving to share in creating a secure, deeply loving and compassionate "womb" space...

It was awesome to witness so much courageous healing in others...

But it was an unexpected joy to find a place within myself when mind, emotion and body came together...strong and confident within...breathing harmonious with the rhythms and music around me...peace in connecting with the emotion of others...and ultimate thankfulness in uniting with 'that of God within me'."

--Merry Stephenson, York, England

"I just want to thank you again for the incredible breathwork experience.

In my wildest dreams I didn’t imagine how powerful it would be.   I am still assimilating the experience, and it is hard ( I keep finding!) to put it into words.  But the ah-ha I had recently is that I feel like Scrooge at the end of A Christmas Carol (which has always been one of my favorite stories).

I feel like I have seen the ghosts, re-experienced the past, shed some painful hurts, and I’m ready to move on with bringing new life to the present. "

...ABOUT THE HOLOTROPIC WEEKEND RETREAT...

"I want to tell you again how very much I enjoyed last weekend.  The setting was, indeed, spectacular and I have never attended a workshop that was more efficiently or thoughtfully run.  "

--KH, Sarasota, Florida

"I really enjoyed the wonderfully eclectic group, at a time when I needed new people in my life!  Thanks for your energy and grace.  The food was wonderful, service smooth and unobtrusive, and there was plenty of time between activities for talking, walking in the woods, or just being alone to journal.   The facilitators were great, available and supportive."

Holotropic Breathwork is a powerful technique of self-exploration and healing, based on and combining insights from modern consciousness research, depth psychology, and various spiritual practices. The name holotropic from the Greek holos which means "whole", and trepein which means "to move in the direction of" literally means "moving towards wholeness."

This approach is based on the mobilization of the spontaneous healing potential of the psyche in nonordinary states of consciousness which are induced by breathing and evocative music. Focused energy work and mandala drawing are additional important elements used in the holotropic process. In the sessions, participants alternate in the roles of experiencers and "sitters."

Holotropic Breathwork mediates access to all levels of human experience including unfinished issues from postnatal biography, sequences of psychological death and rebirth and the entire spectrum of transpersonal phenomena. This highly experiential method of self-exploration was developed by Stanislav Grof, M.D. and Christina Grof.
